On April 22, 2009, the trapping world lost a dedicated trapper when David Voland passed away. Thanks to David for all his years of membership and participation in the ISTA and the trapping world. His recent memorial donation to the ISTA is greatly appreciated. Below is a poem enclosed in the program at his memorial service.
The Trapping Song
There is fun in trapping muskrats,
Mink and Marten and the sort.
Setting snares and making deadfalls,
Yes! Kind friends I call it sport.
When the coming of November
Tells us fur is getting prime;
Then we hasten to the woodland,
Where we have a happy time.
I don't care to hunt for Rhinos,
Lions and that sort of thing;
Put me in a trapping country,
And I'm happy as a king.
Take me where the fur is plenty,
Into an Indiana Glen
Where the sly old Lynx and Bobcat
Hang around the baited pen.
Take me where the pine is tallest
Where the pleasures are untold,
Take me to the Flat Rock River,
Let me die there when I'm old.
I must close now, brother trapper,
Close until some future time
For the coming of November,
Call me out upon the line.
